The CIMEGS Translation Grant supports the human translation of selected scholarly books from Arabic into English. It is one programme within the wider CIMEGS Publishing list.

A work accepted under the grant is fully funded. The author pays nothing.

Who may apply

Authors, rights holders, and publishers of Arabic scholarly works within the Institute’s fields may submit a proposal. Preference is given to original, well-documented works with clear research value and relevance to an international readership.

What the grant covers

  • Professional human translation by a named qualified translator.
  • Bilingual editorial checking against the Arabic source.
  • Scholarly or editorial assessment appropriate to the publication.
  • Editing, production, rights, and metadata preparation.
  • A digital edition, and a printed edition where the book suits print.

Translation standard

Every translation is produced by a human translator working from the original. The press does not use machine translation or generative AI to produce any part of a published translation and does not accept machine-generated text merely because a person edited it afterwards. A second qualified human reader checks the final translation against the source.

Rights

The grant does not transfer publication rights. Translation and publication proceed only after the author, publisher, or other rights holder grants the required rights in writing.
