Is CIMEGS Publishing a commercial publisher?
No. It is the not-for-profit scholarly press of the Canadian Institute for Middle East and Gulf Studies. Its purpose is to advance knowledge, not to make a profit.
What subjects does the press publish?
Our list follows the fields the Institute studies: economy, society, culture, technology, environment, heritage, the arts, and education, with particular attention to sustainable development.
Are the books peer reviewed?
Yes. Every academic book is read by independent scholars before it is accepted. You can read how we do this on the Peer Review page.
Are the books open access?
Open access is our preferred model. Most titles are free to read and to share, subject to rights and funding. See Open Access and Licensing.
Does the press charge authors a fee?
No payment can buy acceptance, and the decision to accept a book is kept entirely separate from money. See our Fees page.
Does CIMEGS translate English books into Arabic?
Not at this stage. The press currently translates outstanding Arabic scholarship into English. See the Translation Grant.
Can a publisher or rights holder propose a book?
Yes. Authors, rights holders, and Arab publishers are all welcome to write to us. See Partnerships or use the proposal form.
Is a printed edition available?
Yes, where it is suitable. Alongside the open-access edition, a title can be made available in print on demand.
Will a book receive an ISBN and a DOI?
Each published edition carries its own ISBN, and a DOI is assigned according to the press's policy and capacity, so the work can be cited and found reliably.
How long does a reply take?
The editorial team reads every proposal and replies by email. A considered reply may take a few weeks.
