The scholarly press of the Institute
CIMEGS Publishing
CIMEGS Publishing is the scholarly press of the Canadian Institute for Middle East and Gulf Studies. We translate Arabic books and original works into English, and we bring the work of scholars from the Middle East, the Gulf, and North Africa to readers worldwide.
What we do
A press built on trust
Restoring the balance
Academic translation flows mostly from English into Arabic. We work in the other direction, carrying Arabic books and ideas to readers in English.
Independent peer review
Independent scholars read every book before we accept it. Our decisions rest on scholarly merit and the value of the contribution alone.
Open access
Our books are free to read and to share under a Creative Commons licence, with a printed edition for readers who prefer one.
For authors
What your book receives
Every title we publish carries the identifiers, the indexing, and the reach that let it be found, read, and cited worldwide.
- A Canadian ISBN for every edition, issued through ISBN Canada
- A DOI through Crossref, so citations resolve permanently
- Legal deposit in the national collection at Library and Archives Canada
- Open access worldwide under a Creative Commons licence
- Indexing in DOAB, Google Scholar, and library catalogues such as WorldCat
- A printed edition distributed internationally, at no cost to the author
For authors
A translation grant for Arabic books
Each year the press funds the translation of distinguished Arabic scholarship into English, and covers the cost in full, so the author pays nothing.
Transparency
How we work
Our policies on peer review, ethics, licensing, and fees are public, and we publish them in full.
